Sweet Water Organics is an urban fish and vegetable farm located in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee that has re-purposed unused industrial building space. They use aquaponics to grow fresh, safe produce and provide year-round fresh local produce and fish for local Milwaukee residents, restaurants and groceries. They also strive to become a resource for job creation and use of urban settings.
This could become a model for other communities. There are numerous empty commercial buildings in the Austin, Texas area that could be used for growing food. And check out these Roadside Culture Stands, one of which is hosted by Sweet Water Organics. I LOVE this idea!
