Murder in the Garden

Dear friends,

These four-inch long purple and yellow grasshoppers we have here now sure are pretty, but I've been trying to murder two of them for a week (no doubt they are male and female and we know what that means). I sat and watched in fascination as one chomped through two arugula leaves in about ten seconds. I've been trying to smash them with rocks (they're too fast), stomp on them (ditto, and I'm afraid they'll fly up my dress :-o), but to no avail.

Finally, just now, I was out there harvesting greens when one flew by and landed right at my feet. I acted swiftly and chopped off the beast's head with my kitchen scissors.

SCORE! LOL

I just hope it doesn't grow back.
